FEISTY!

Pouring 'etiquette' aside, William Worthington's White Shield stands apart from other beers thanks to its massive taste and full-to-bursting mouthfeel. This beer is big on flavour and has the mantle piece of awards to prove it!

The White Shield brewing team worked with beer industry's international flavour specialists FlavorActiv to demystify the White Shield flavour profile and identified the taste and aroma characteristics you see below (and illustrated right).

  • HOP ATTACK!
  • SMOKY
  • TREACLE TOFFEE
  • BITTER
  • PAPRIKA
  • FRIED BANANA
  • STILTON CHEESE AND SLICED APPLES

Encapsulating the flavour of a beer William Worthington himself would have struggled to tame, at the White Shield Brewery we believe 'feisty' also describes the personality and essence of White Shield.

Of course, everyone's palate is different and tasting beer is largely subjective. You may not pick up all the flavour and aroma notes identified by our experts - you may find others of your own - it's really a matter of personal taste.

Why not set up your own beer tasting session and have a go at comparing William Worthington's White Shield with some of the other beers in your collection?

BEER & FOOD... A VERY GOOD THING

Susan Nowak, author of the Beer Cook Book, believes that restaurants and gastropubs up and down the UK have let wine elbow out beer and the nation’s favourite meal-time drink for too long!

"Beer offers much more choice than wine," she says. "It can partners a wider variety if tastes, from simple to complex. Its styles can take you through pale, zesty aperitifs to the dark, big bodied complex brews that meet the challenges of flavoursome food with all the assurance of burgundy or claret.

"Top chefs are happily cooking with beer, and breweries are putting food suggestions on beer bottle labels. Who knows, maybe soon, we'll be treating beer with the same respect Belgian beer sommeliers do when they recommend beers to go with food at smart restaurants."

Here are a few mouth-watering 'White Shield and Food' recommendations from the team at the White Shield Brewery.

And ‘Beer Hunter’ Michael Jackson believes the robust full flavour of White Shield is “the ideal aperitif before a Saturday evening curry or Sunday roast.”
